Solution
Taking portraits raises an interesting opportunity to find balance between implementing well-known design principles while still highlighting individual and unique subject matters. With portraits, the design principles - such as composition, lighting, color, and framing - act as tools to better capture the essence and personality of each subject, ensuring that their unique characteristics shine through. This creates visually engaging portraits that draw viewers' attention to the subject while maintaining aesthetic harmony.
The subjects in my portraits are often the people in my life. From school friends to my home church, these portraits allow me to capture moments that simply make those around me feel good about themselves - something that I feel is the most important aspect of a portrait.
Design Challenge
Portraits are one of the most powerful kinds of photographs. A great portrait can last for decades, memorializing a person’s entire life, or just a single moment in time. The difference between a quick snapshot and a good portrait is more narrow than you’d think. It just requires a little bit of thought.
Remember that the images that you take are a collaboration between you and your subject. Also, a good portrait will say volumes about the person in it, but also says something about the photographer and about us as viewers.
