This poster series will help to educate and inform an audience about a chosen type classification category. Do research to inform your creative direction. Develop a visual research library of historical, cultural, or other aesthetic imagery. Use the library to inspire harmonious color palettes that communicate specific qualities and feelings. Solution
Clarendon is a high-contrast, meaty slab-serif with soft curved edges and sharp squared serifs. I wanted to create a dynamic layout to interest my audience in learning more about the typefamily. I paid attention to perpendicular and diagonal lines to create clear structure. Contrast of weight and scale built a clear hierarchy to make the reading accessible. The messages pop forward and sit lightly above my soft focus photography using both opaque and transparent settings. The result is a playful and fun experience.
The ability to incorporate my own photography as the poster backgrounds allowed me to add a layer of authenticity and a unique visual identity to each poster. By incorporating my original photography, I was able to showcase some artistic skills outside of graphic design, which brought a stronger connection between the visual and textual elements, while also adding a touch of sincerity and personalization.
